With a solid project pipeline and continued growth, they are seeking an experienced Principal Civil/Structural Engineer to join their team in a senior technical and client-facing capacity.
The Role
This is a senior position responsible for leading the delivery of civil and structural design projects, particularly across substation and related infrastructure works.
You will provide technical leadership, support project delivery, and play a key role in client engagement and business development. The role offers a balance of hands-on engineering, project oversight, and strategic contribution to the wider team.
Responsibilities
- Leading the design and review of civil and structural projects, including detailed analysis and calculations
- Managing project delivery to ensure outcomes meet scope, budget, programme, and quality expectations
- Preparing and reviewing technical documentation, specifications, and design reports
- Supporting proposal development, fee estimates, and tender submissions
- Building and maintaining strong client relationships, identifying ongoing opportunities
- Providing technical guidance and mentoring within the engineering team
- Ensuring compliance with relevant codes, standards, and quality systems
- Contributing to health & safety practices across design and site activities
- Supporting commercial performance, including forecasting and fee recovery
- Participating in industry networking and business development activities
Skills and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
- 15+ years’ experience in civil/structural engineering
- Strong experience in infrastructure or energy-related projects (substations highly regarded)
- Proven ability to lead design delivery and manage projects end-to-end
- Solid commercial awareness, including budgeting and proposal preparation
- Strong client relationship and stakeholder management skills
- Experience within a consultancy environment preferred
- Chartered/Professional Engineer status preferred
- Full NZ driver’s licence
